Susanne Junker

We explore gender violence, as connected to economic and social violences, and to the power of knowledge. Sexual abuses are notably a primary form of violence, to which field workers try to react, according to the efficiency of helplines. Divorce policies and new laws have been pondered, and partly instantiated, in order to revert this situation. For this purpose, the role of schools for sexual education will be relevant. It is indeed only through the cultural representation and the education on genders that equal opportunities will bereached one day.
In collaboration with WhyWhyArt, EASA and ifa gallery, the Antonyms ActOnition Exhibition starts its first forum on 10 July 2021.

“Sexual harassment on campus”
Lecture with Q&A by Prof. Li Jing
This talk brings a universally prevalent yet often ignored form of violence into relief: sexual harassment against women and sexual minorities. It explains why harassment was predominantly enacted to regulate the gender roleand to uphold the binary gender regime, thus giving rise to considerable social inequality. By drawing on recent cases of sexual harassment on campus in China, this talk also unravels the specific power structure and contingent constellation of social institutions in the contemporary Chinese context.

“Gender violence and stories from victims”
Lecture with Q&A by Susanne Junker
Only because I wasn’t raped while working as a fashion model in the 1990s, doesn’t indicate that I didn’t experience sexual harassment and misogyny at work. I witnessed: this business can produce adistorted female identity and helps to cover up forced prostitution and human trafficking.
My personal experience working in this “glamorous” fashion world shaped me as an artist. I turned from object to author with self-portrait photography. I question identity and feminism. I created a platform to meet with leading feminists and activists in France during my research for my project “portrait-parole”.
Currently I am teaching at the China Academy of Art. The topic of sexual insult and harassment in our society was mentioned by several female students during my tutoring while they expressed their concern during creative work in our class.
