Tell a Story Like the Novelist

The 147th Session of English Salon of Riverside English Society

It is said that O’Henry was accustomed to playing a writing game in his family before he became a famous writer. When a large family member clustered around their mother, Mom randomly gave a lead and then a story would evolve through each member’s mouth. Each is required to tell a scrap to connect with the previous narration logically and finally form a complete and compelling story. The habit considerably sharpened the writer’s imagination and his impromptu speaking skill. Let’s practice it in the following way: 

1: The story must be started in the scenario where Jack left his hometown in Shanxi and tried his luck in Beijing in 2000. 

2: The story must be ended in the scenario that Jack becomes a vagrant in the street of Kandahar in 2022.

Participants will give four minutes of impromptu narration of the story and propel it to the required end.
