Transeo: Dreaming of a digital delusion is the first virtual solo art exhibition of the Swedish artist Kristoffer Kullengren to connect his global audience. The exhibition reflects on technology’s double-edged effect on human life and future through 69 artworks that narrate ways to navigate through uncertain and chaotic times with a gravitational focus on the unchanged principles that create inner peace and order for happiness and joy.

Transeo will also exhibit the first collaborative NFT artwork between Kristoffer Kullengren and Bechstein, a world-class piano brand since 1853, a first of its kind in China market.

The exhibition is unveiled with the piece, These Are Not Apples, to implicate the double-edged effect of technology on human life. The piece combines a tribute to Magritte’s ‘Ceci n’est pas une pipe’ with a unique philosophical manifestation of Kristoffer Kullengrens minimalism and idealism.

Technology is the apple of wisdom in which humans have partaken. The virtual entrance diverges into two opposite exhibition spaces. The art displayed in the left space tells of a world of futuristic fantasies built by technology, whereas the art in the right space expresses a world of emotional chaos that results from these same disruptive changes.

    6.jpg

The exhibition space on the left displays 7 of Kristoffer Kullengren’s artworks that provoke thoughts on the evolving symbiosis between technology and humanity in a fantastical future: an artificial ant that reads signals in air to automate city building; a time/space portal in the universe that allows travel beyond light speed; a world with the dominant virtual lifestyle under VR helmets like in Spielberg’s‘Ready Player One’; and Sophon, a character in Three-Body Problem by the Hugo award winner Liu Cixin’s.

    13.jpg

The space on the right displays artworks created on an uncertain, volatile and complex time: Chaos Study Series. In 2020, the black swan event, the pandemic, threw all our lives into a myriad levels of uncertainty. An insight from Taleb’s The Black Swan is how to stay conservative in negative black swan effects and aggressive in positive black swan effects could be a way to navigate through uncertainties, which is also mentioned in his later ‘Anti-Fragile’ to be adaptable in adversities.

A process of mutual derivation between chaos and order is seen from Kristoffer Kullengrens three works ‘ChaosConfront and Construct. As explained by John Gribbin in his Deep Simplicity’, order reduces into chaos when entropy increases, reaching the final balance of death. Yet, it is also from chaos that a high degree of order can derive such as life forms, which is why chaos and order evolve from each other in the balance.

When we are in a volatile and complex environment, what are the principles that allow us to find an emotional and spiritual anchor to navigate and evolve in uncertain times? Intimacy expert Esther Perel often says that the quality of life depends on the quality of relationships. Through several series of art works, the artist reveals the pillars that stabilize uncertainties: values and principlesquality relationships and a grateful perception to notice the joy in life, which are the themes of the latter half of the exhibition.

For values, two mirrored artworks, whose central images are a hand holding a rose to give, express a philosophical insight: the kindness of giving generates more of the kind.

There are several new artworks that are exhibited for the first time at Transeo. The most representative ones are the artist's perspectives on feminism. The artist uses metaphorical symbols such as lipsticks, pleasant smiles and high heels to express his views: how limiting the society has pigeonholed women into an assumed place to please, which chains their potentials. In the third piece of the Feminism series, a hammer that symbolizes strength and work wears a shiny diamond ring, and the bright lips in red are pulled unzipped from one end. Provoking, the art expresses a wanting transformation in females role of a social evolution.

The other work that is exhibited for the first time is One Human Race, which was inspired by Tokyo music production team Funtime Production’s album Quarantine released during the pandemic. In this work, Kristoffer Kullengren expresses the concept of one human race through one color in gradual change. With common goals, humankind shares same challenges: in the face of a severe epidemic, all mankind is not divided but one community with one shared future. No one can overcome this challenge alone. Only by helping each other can we overcome this adversity and heal the world together.

This exhibition is also the first time that connects Kristoffer Kullengrens global audience to come together virtually, and engages in dialogues with interactive experience in an original form.
