What is the Significance of Nurturing Children

In most cases, the Chinese are labelled as the typical utilitarian for the habit of wondering "what's the use of it" in any new attempt or decision-making. However, they have never done it in one issue: children's delivery and raising. The philosophy of "the more son, the more happiness" has induced them to give birth to children as much as possible for many centuries and finally turn out into the most populous country in the world. Even poverty and suffering failed to halt the obsession to produce offspring until the sweep of the overwhelming one-child policy. If we conclude that the powerful coercion force choked off our biological tendency and feature at that time, we will find a growing voluntary refusal to give birth to children in present youth with childbearing age. They don't think it is cost-effective to deliver and nurture a child at the cost of their prime time and considerable income in a competitive society. Facing a stressful life and bleak prospect, more and more young people think childbearing and nurturing are a gamble and even refuse to get married. Youth are gradually awakening to their pursuit—egoism.

As Kahil Gibran put it:

Children are not your children.

They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.

They come through you but not from you .

And though they are with you, yet they belong not to you.
